It does not matter how witty your question or reply is, but how loving.
I have been there. I have been that beautifully dressed woman in the grocery store. And I've also been Lucy. But you don't have to walk a mile in someone else's shoes to appreciate on their behalf what they enjoy. Be it heels or ugly orthopedics!
Also, remember what you say in front of children about them. Believe it or not, even the babies understand your tone.
